Here are a few books I endorse. They are not the standard “mindfulness for business” books. Such books — “Mindful Work” by David Gelles, “Search Inside Yourself” by Chade-Meng Tan, and so on — are useful and informative, but you can easily find those by Googling. I want to share my personal top-choice books. Here they are:
Full Catastrophe Living by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D.
An influential guide to mindfulness by the founder of the modern, secular mindfulness movement.
The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris, M.D.
A guide to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which is technically a form of psychotherapy but strikes me as just an excellent system of mindfulness training, with emphasis on working with stress, anxiety, and difficult emotions.
When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chödrön
Advice on meditation, mindfulness, and self-compassion from the famous American Buddhist nun Pema Chödrön. Largely about dealing with pain and difficult life situations.
The Issue at Hand by Gil Fronsdal
The most accessible introduction to Buddhist philosophy and practice I've come across. These teachings are the source and inspiration for the modern secular mindfulness movement, and it's worth exploring where all this stuff comes from. You don't need to identify as Buddhist to find value in these lessons on meditation, mindfulness, and skillful living.
My favorite meditation app, with guided meditations from some of the world’s most renowned meditation teachers, including the great Sharon Salzberg and Joseph Goldstein.
A well-made meditation smartphone app, with guided meditations narrated by a British former Buddhist monk. Some content is free; the rest is available via paid subscription.
A library of free guided audio meditations courtesy of UCLA’s Mindful Awareness Research Center (“MARC”).
A collection of useful and interesting videos from meditation teacher Shinzen Young. Shinzen combines a scientific approach with deep experience in several meditative traditions, especially Southeast Asian mindfulness meditation and Japanese Zen.
